Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
