TikTok Offers Viewers Power to Limit AI-Generated Media in Personal Streams

The platform is rolling out a updated setting that permits them to reduce the amount of AI-created content appearing in their feeds. This step comes as the company revealed that it currently hosts more than 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a full-scale rollout. This development coincides with a surge in AI content, driven by recent content generation software.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that approximately one in 10 of the quickest rising channels on a competing service exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is classified as mass-produced AI material, a phrase for poor-quality, factory-style content that is often absurd or dreamlike.

Based on user feedback that many people appreciate content produced via AI tools, including computer-generated images to educational videos, and we aim to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” said a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform announced that there are presently over a billion videos on its network identified as AI-generated. Collectively, in excess of 100 million pieces of content are uploaded to the service every day, making AI-generated material a minor percentage of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be able to decrease or raise the volume of artificial media they watch by opening the topic control setting in the app and picking AI-made media. Further subjects that can already be adjusted under the setting encompass politics, clothing, aesthetics, and dance.

Content Labeling and Policies

TikTok’s guidelines require content makers to label “realistic” AI-generated content, and it prohibits dangerous fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any believable artificial content that is not labeled can be taken down under its community policies.

Furthermore, the platform will now attach an “AI-made” label to content created with its own AI tools, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying artificial media. This action is designed to help prevent users from seeking to circumvent the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also introducing a two million dollar educational fund for specialists and institutions to produce informative material about using AI responsibly. This project will assist non-profit groups focused on teaching programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has defended its moderation strategy, during controversy over proposals to make redundant a large number of safety staff in the United Kingdom. TikTok is set to reduce a significant number of roles in its trust and safety division in its British office, with labor groups and internet security professionals raising concerns that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead clarified that staff-based oversight would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by eliminating the most harmful content prior to it is viewed by staff. The platform stated a notable drop in disturbing and violent content seen by content reviewers over the previous year due to intervention by its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to balance humans and technology to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have staff as part of that process, but we also think it’s very important to limit contact with dangerous material as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is making a difference operate efficiently.”
